Truancy

All children who have reached the age of six years old by February 1 of any school year and have not yet turned sixteen years old are required to attend school regularly unless excused.  Children who are absent without a valid excuse are considered truant.  Truancy is an obvious barrier to success in school.  It can also be a sign of other problems in a child’s life that they may need help with.  School personnel attempt to find the causes for a student’s truancy and help the child overcome those issues so they will attend school and learn.

Funded Agencies:

City of St. Petersburg-PD – South County Truancy Interdiction Center
Sixth Judicial – Truancy Outreach
