Housing
Many people agree – there is a housing crisis for poor families. This
lack of affordable housing is one of the primary causes of homelessness.
Other reasons can include stagnant or falling incomes and less secure jobs
with fewer or no benefits. Workers living with a lower wage have been left
behind as the gap between rich and poor has grown. Families
facing housing problems are frequently unable to pay for food, child care,
health care, and education. This leads to difficult choices for
families, none of which provide good outcomes for our children.
Gross Rent
The amount of the contract rent plus the
estimated average monthly cost of utilities (electricity, gas, and
water and sewer) and fuels (oil, coal,
kerosene, wood, etc.) if
these are paid for by the renter (or paid for the renter by someone
else). Gross rent is intended to eliminate
differentials which
result from varying practices with respect to the inclusion of
utilities and fuels as part of the rental payment.
