Childhood
Immunizations - Two Year Old Children
Each year an annual immunization survey of two-year-old
children born in Florida is conducted to determine if children are being
immunized on schedule and to measure immunization levels based on high-risk
maternal factors. The random sample survey provides estimated immunization
levels for 20 participating counties and the state.
- The charts below show the survey results for the basic 4/3/1 (four
DTaP, three polio, and one MMR) series of vaccines.
The percentage of fully immunized two-year old children in
Pinellas County declined in 2007 (2008 data are not yet available),
reversing an upward trend since 2001. However, the decline is not
statistically significant.
- Because this is a survey, the estimated percentage for Pinellas, or
any county, is likely to vary from the actual percentage due to sampling
and non-sampling errors. Using a 95% confidence interval, the decline in
Pinellas’ percentage between 2006 and 2007 is within the range of
acceptable statistical variation and is considered to be not significant.
Confidence intervals for Pinellas, the state and selected counties of
similar size are shown at the bottom of this section.
- Based on the 2007
survey, Pinellas compares favorably to other counties of similar
size. The relatively low immunization percentage for Palm Beach
County is the result of a decline in fully completed immunizations
and a corresponding increase in partially completed immunizations.
