Children's Healthcare

Health care comprises a variety of critical services including the prevention and treatment of illness administered by health
professionals.  Quality health care is critical to ensure good health outcomes and appropriate child and adolescent development.

Florida KidCare is health insurance for Florida’s children.  In order to qualify, a child must be under 18 years of age, be uninsured,
meet certain income requirements, be a U.S. citizen or qualified non-citizen, not be a dependent of a state employee eligible for
health insurance, and not be in a public institution.

In Pinellas County, 7.9% of youth ages 0-4 are without health insurance, just under the overall percentage in Florida, 8.1%.
In the age range 5-9, Pinellas has the largest percentage of uninsured youth compared to Florida generally and other selected
counties (except for Palm Beach).  In the age range 10-18, 11.3% are not insured.
