Child and Youth Mortality

Child and youth mortality refers to the death of children and youth between the ages of 1 and 17. 

Deaths of Pinellas County children and youth 1-17 years of age have averaged approximately 40 per year, 0.24 deaths per 1000 population ages 1-17, with 48% due to injury (includes homicides and suicides).

  • On average, there are approximately five homicides and two suicides per year. In 2006, there were three homicides and no suicides, the lowest in six years.
     


 

  • Pinellas County’s children and youth death rate is below the state and other Florida counties of similar size.
